The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary visits the Philippines

The Honorable István Jakab, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary visited the Philippines on 10-19 November 2021. The delegation of the Hungarian legislature was the first foreign delegation received in the Senate of the Philippines since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the occasion of the visit, the Senate of the Philippines adopted an unanimous resolution commending the National Assembly of Hungary and its Speaker, The Honorable Mr. László Kövér.

During the visit, Deputy Speaker Jakab met with Senate President The Hon. Vicente C. Sotto III, the Majority Leader of the Senate, The Hon. Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and members of the Senate, as well as Secretary Fortunato de la Peña of the Department of Science and Technology and Secretary William D. Dar of the Department of Agriculture. The Deputy Speaker also visited several agricultural research institues of the Department of Agriculture, including PhilMech, PhilRice, the Philippine Carabao Center, as well as other partners, such as the Laguna Lake Development Authority. Deputy Speaker Jakab paid a courtesy call on Archbishop Cardinal José F. Advíncula to discuss Hungary’s humanitarian assistance and support to Christian communities worldwide.

 

Deputy Speaker István Jakab handed over Hungary’s book donation to the Library of the Senate of the Philippines during his visit. On the occasion of his meeting with Secretary William D. Dar, the Deputy Speaker symbolically presented to the Secretary of Agriculture the agricultural machinery donated by the research partners of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE). During the visit, three Memoranda of Understanding were signed between MATE and its Philippine partners, PhilRice, the University of the Philippines Los Baños and the University of the Philippines Visayas.
