Hungary and the Philippines signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific and Technological Cooperation on 8 April 2022
This milestone document which aims to modernize a precursor agreement signed in 1982 was signed by Her Excellency dr. Titanilla Tóth, Ambassador of Hungary and The Honorable Fortunato de la Peña, Secretary of Science and Technology of the Republic of the Philippines at the Embassy of Hungary in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The cooperating parties of the document are the National Research Development and Innovation Office (NRDIO) of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology of Hungary and the Department of Science and Technology of the Philippines DOST Philippines.
Mutual cooperation areas promoted in the document include, but are not limited to, sustainable Agriculture (including Aquaculture), Infocommunication Technology (includes Spectrum Monitoring and Earth Observation) and Quantum Technology.
Secretary Fortunato de le Peña highlighted that the signed document was by far the fastest conclusion of such an agreement, with talks that began in March 2021. The Secretary added that this is the first time that the Department of Science and Technology is discussing quantum computing in a bilateral agreement.
The Department of Science and Technology and the Embassy of Hungary held an Exploratory Dialogue online event on 28 April 2021 to specifically identify the focal areas of the scient and technology cooperation of the two countries.
