Courtesy call on the Honorable Roy A. Cimatu, Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources

On 26 January 2021, Ambassador Dr. Titanilla Tóth paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Roy A. Cimatu, Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the potential cooperation areas in the environment sector, as well as joint efforts towards the rehabilitation of Laguna lake (Laguna de Bay). The meeting was also attended by The Hon. Jaime C. Medina, CEO of the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).

Hungary is known to have the expertise and capability in terms of water management and treatment. The Laguna Lake also shares similarities with Hungary’s Lake Balaton, the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe. Lake Balaton was heavily polluted in the past but has since been successfully rehabilitated due to the local government intervention. Now, Lake Balaton is home to hundreds of species of algae, invertebrates, protected plants and animals and has become a popular tourist destination.
